Maërl is a design studio founded in 2022 by Martin Rolland and Stephan Lanez, two artists united by a common vision: creating contemporary furniture that is elegant, sustainable, adapted to new uses, in harmony with nature, designed for living and deeply rooted in traditional French craftsmanship.
Their approach combines high technical standards, creative intuition and respect for natural materials. They like to cross-fertilize craftsmanships, combine materials, and provoke unexpected encounters between traditional techniques and modern forms. Solid wood, leather, raw steel: every material is selected for its nobility and durability.
At Maërl, everything is designed to eliminate the superfluous and allow the essential to express itself: form, idea, material - in a simultaneous quest for surprise and the obvious. By combining innovation and tradition, the studio creates sophisticated, functional and timeless pieces that celebrate craftsmanship and the raw beauty of materials.
In 2025, the studio won the Mobilier National's call for acquisition with its "Sépia" bench, made from chestnut wickerwork.
