From October 11 to November 30, 2024, on the occasion of the Paris Photo Fair, Galerie Gosserez invites the specialist in contemporary photography and founder of Galerie Intervalle, Yan Di Meglio, to take part in an exhibition that questions the matter, medium of both expression and experimentation.
‘‘Material works have a physical presence. They trigger a unique aesthetic experience in a gallery for the duration of a visit or for life in a collector’s home. Matter is the essence of this magic and is at the heart of the preoccupations of the artists featured in this exhibition.
Galerie Gosserez’s artist-designers shape materials by hand (glazed metal, fire-blackened wood, molded leather, etc.), like demiurges, in a corps à corps from which harmony springs. They pay homage to Mother Nature through the organic forms they impart to their art furniture.
In photography too, there is a current of experimentation with matter. Like the pioneers of 150 years ago, artists are reinventing photography. Light-sensitive sludge from a stream polluted by an Agfa film factory becomes a silver emulsion. Dystopian urban views fixed on IBM memory cards or obsolete Kindles take a critical look at
technological optimism.
Sometimes going against the grain of our century, where progress is draped in immateriality, these artists, each in their own way, celebrate the importance of the matter, the shortest route to the pleasure of the senses’’.
