Émile Degorce-Dumas is fascinated by the ancestral and animist rites of his childhood in French Guiana, which he hybridizes with the codes of contemporary Western culture. A graduate of the Villa Arson in Nice, he has been teaching fashion and ceramics at the Atelier de Sèvres in Paris for almost ten years.
Émile Degorce-Dumas's vases are a manifest exaltation of the undulating line. His ceramic creations with imperfect contours, enhanced by haphazard ornamentation, place the work in a fine disequilibrium, between irregularity and symmetry, chaos and harmony, giving a strong impression of life, so far removed from the "dull effect" of the straight line. A flitting effect springs from the object's oblique folds and hollows, yet it is also the idea of another beauty, multiform and versicolored, a metaphor for the infinite spirals of existence.
