Born in 1988, Laura Garcia Karras studied in Brussels and then at the Beaux-Arts de Paris, from which she graduated in 2015. Winner of the 2018 Crédit Agricole Foundation competition, she won the third prize of the Prix Antoine Marin, presented by Bernard Frize. In spring 2023, she was part of the group exhibition "Immortelle", an ambitious panorama of young French figurative painting at the M.O.C.O in Montpellier. She is currently resident at Poush in Aubervillers.
Her oil paintings are inspired by the observation of nature through the prism of her sensations and her quest for silence. Vegetal shapes, recurrent symbols in her work, bud on her canvases, and seem to want to escape the frame. Like arabesques blending realistic and abstract nuances, close-up flowers alternate between voluptuous forms and feminine curves. These hypertrophic floral motifs, overflowing with warm colors, impose an expressionist force and immanent rhythm onto a wholesome feeling.
