Lucas Leffler, born in Virton in 1993, embodies the new generation of Belgian artists based in Brussels, where he is forging a body of work that transcends the traditional boundaries of photography.
Trained at the Haute École Ilya Prigogine and the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Ghent, he soon embraced an experimental approach to the medium, guided by a fascination for the chemistry and materiality of the image. Leffler positions himself at the intersection of science and art, shaping works that are not limited to photography but extend to more sculptural and installation forms.
Drawing on myths and historical narratives, he is part of a tradition in which technique and innovation are combined with a profound knowledge of the history of photography. His early research, marked by reflection on the transition from silver to digital, led to projects such as “Zilverbeek” (2017-2024), a work that questions the industrial heritage of Agfa-Gevaert.
