Julien Mauve, visual artist and musician, explores persistent dystopia through stagings inspired by myths and legends. His visual narratives question our future in the face of contemporary threats, reflecting on what the world would become without us. His photographic practice plays with the visible and the invisible, manipulating intangible light to capture a history of matter, both natural and artificial, in which humanity is but a brief interlude. Mauve has published two books with Editions Poursuite: L'Indifférence des étoiles (2016) and Titanic Orchestra (2017). His work has earned him several prestigious awards, including the SFR Jeunes Talents in 2013, the Sony World Photography Award in 2016 and the Bourse Du Talent in 2018.
After Lights Out explores a world where night is dissolved by artificial urban light and phone screens. Subtitled “Variations on a Nightscape”, this photographic series examines our contemporary relationship with light. Each image captures urban settings at dusk, highlighting the light sources that remain in the buildings.
